Dar to Mafia

It took half an hour to get to the airport - bad roads and potential traffic jams weren't an issue this time. We are waiting for our flight on Auric air at 15:30 to Mafia Island.

The small plane was packed to capacity, three a row, squeezed in tight. I got centre seat just behind our Indian pilot, young and capable. I'm always grateful when they young as if he had a heart attack I'd have no idea how to get is safely back to ground.







Half an hour later we landed at Mafia Airport and waited for Mike's plane to arrive soon after our




Paid our marine park fee's (23 dollars a day!) on the way to Mafia Island lodge, the oldest lodge on the island, originally built by the government. 


It's lovely, and we can just see the sea.


After our welcome with freshly squeezed mango juice, we unpacked, had a look at the beach, and worked up our appetites. Rob even had a swim.



Dinner is from 7:30 each evening and was delicious.  Our hosts are Italian, so the garlic pita bread was great.
